Are You Confused by Your Internet and Phone Bills?

Are You Confused by Your Internet and Phone Bills?

Several of our clients with AT&T service have recently been contacted about upgrading to newer, faster, and less expensive internet service. On the surface, that sounds like an easy decision. Who wouldn’t want better service for less money?

But there’s a catch we’ve now seen more than once.

In each case, the faster internet service was installed at the promised lower price—but the client’s phone lines remained on the old, expensive service. That meant the old service could not simply be canceled without also disrupting the business’s phone lines.

The result wasn’t a clean upgrade. It was an additional bill.

The Internet Upgrade Wasn’t the Whole Picture

These were legitimate sales calls, and the new internet service itself was not necessarily the problem. The issue was that the salesperson appeared to be focused on the internet upgrade without first reviewing the client’s complete phone and telecommunications setup.

Business phone services can be tied to older internet packages, legacy copper lines, fax lines, alarm systems, elevator phones, or other equipment that may not be obvious during a sales call. If those connections aren’t identified before a change is made, a seemingly simple upgrade can leave a business paying for both the new service and much of the old one.

In every case we’ve reviewed so far, we’ve been able to save the client a significant amount of money by identifying and canceling services that were no longer needed—while making sure the phone services they still relied on continued working.

Provider Bills Shouldn’t Be This Confusing

We don’t sell internet service, so this isn’t about steering clients toward a particular internet provider. However, because we provide IT and business phone services, we are often asked to help make sense of provider bills filled with unfamiliar line items, overlapping services, and charges that no one remembers approving.

Sometimes the right answer is to change providers. Sometimes it’s to move phone service away from an outdated package. And sometimes the existing setup is already the best option—it just needs to be clearly understood.

More Internet Choices Don’t Always Make the Decision Easier

Our area has seen a welcome expansion in internet options, and services such as Starlink are now widely available. Some providers, including Starlink and Swyft, focus on internet access and may not offer phone service or a complete business phone-system solution.

That doesn’t make them a bad choice. It simply means the internet connection is only one part of the decision. Before changing services, it’s important to understand what will happen to every phone number, line, and device your organization depends on.

We’ll Review Your Bills at No Charge

If your internet and phone bills are difficult to understand—or if you’re considering an upgrade—we’d be happy to review them with you at no charge. We can help identify:

  • Services you may no longer need
  • Duplicate or overlapping charges
  • Phone lines that could be affected by an internet change
  • Opportunities to simplify your setup or reduce costs
  • Questions to ask a provider before approving an upgrade

Our goal is simple: to help you find a direction that either saves you money or gives you peace of mind about the services you already have.
